Premature Ejaculation

  • Climaxing sooner than desired
  • Ejaculation occurring within less than 2-3 minutes

PE is experienced by 1 in 3 men, ages 18-59. There are several causes of PE. Many causes tend to be emotional or psychological. The cause could be related to serotonin levels or could be a symptom of erectile dysfunction.

Some common medications used to treat erectile dysfunction include Cialis and Viagra. These medications increase blood flow to the penis to allow erections during sexual stimulation.

  • Anxiety and stress
  • Guilt and embarrassment
  • Relationship problems

Serotonin is a chemical in the brain that moderates our mood. It controls our emotions, sexual desires, and sleep/wake cycle. If Serotonin levels are low it can contribute to premature ejaculation.

Many patients experience positive results with medications that affect serotonin levels like clomipramine.

Other treatments may include psychological or behavioral therapies.
